The Preservation of Tambaroro Cultural Values in the Traditional House Roofing Ritual (Da Tom Bot) as a Representation of Community Identity in Dokatimur Village, South Aru District, Aru Islands Regency, Maluku

Abstract

The Aru Islands Regency possesses a form of oral literature known as Tambaroro. Tambaroro is a traditional practice that must be performed during customary ceremonies. It consists of poetic chants that convey historical narratives and expressions of gratitude to God Almighty. This tradition is also utilized in the process of constructing a house, particularly in the ritual of closing the roof. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive design. According to Sugiyono (2016), qualitative research is often referred to as a naturalistic method because it is conducted in natural settings. It is also commonly associated with ethnographic approaches, as it was initially widely used in cultural anthropology research. The purpose of this study is to obtain primary data regarding the cultural values embedded in the Tambaroro tradition. Data collection was carried out through several stages: (1) observation, (2) interviews, and (3) documentation, in order to ensure accurate and relevant data. In addition, a literature review approach was employed to further understand the concept of the Tambaroro tradition and to explain the cultural values contained within the traditional house roofing process.
